Member Guidelines

Welcome to the Strathendrick Singers. These Guidelines are designed to help you get the most out of your membership of the choir. They give you information about rehearsals and concerts and are designed to ensure the efficient running of the Singers.

Rehearsals

  • Rehearsals take place on Monday nights in Balfron Church and begin promptly at 7.30pm. You should be in your seat ready to sing at this time. There is a short break during the rehearsal when the Chair will give out any notices.
  • Once the rehearsal has begun there should be no conversation which might be distracting for the Music Director and the other members. Please remember to switch off mobile phones.
  • If you are late for a rehearsal wait for a suitable break in singing before coming in and sitting down.

Attendance

  • Attendance at rehearsals is expected and a register is taken each week. If you have not attended a sufficient number of rehearsals you may not be allowed to sing in the concert. This will be at the discretion of the Music Director.
  • If you know that you cannot attend a rehearsal then please let your choir representative know in advance by indicating on the register when you will be unavailable.

Music

  • Music Scores are provided for members and you can make notes on them in pencil. You are responsible for collecting your music at the beginning of the rehearsal and will be required to sign for your score.
  • Music hire is a major cost for the choir, so music must be returned at the end of each concert. There may be a charge for non-return.
  • If you leave the choir or have an extended leave of absence make sure you return all your music as soon as possible

Concerts

  • In general there are two concerts per year: one at Christmas time and one in the Spring. Members are expected to sell tickets for these concerts. There will usually be a rehearsal with the orchestra before the concert and attendance at this is mandatory.
  • Concert dress for the ladies consists of long black skirt or black trousers, black stockings, black shoes and the choir blouse. For the men concert dress consists of black trousers and a black shirt.
  • New members will be given the opportunity to purchase the blouse. Choir music folders are normally used for concerts and these will be supplied for a £10 deposit.

Subscriptions

  • Annual subscriptions are due at the beginning of the session. The annual subscription rate is £90. This can be paid in two instalments if preferred, in October and January. Students pay a reduced rate of £15.
  • Cheques should be made payable to: The Strathendrick Singers and given to the treasurer. If you are paying cash then please put the money in an envelope with your name on the outside.
